NVIDIA RTX vs Radeon RX

No single “winner”, it is model vs model at your resolution. NVIDIA often leads on ray tracing and DLSS in big AAA games; AMD often pushes strong frame-per-dollar and FSR that works broadly. For work, some video and AI tools still favor NVIDIA; for pure office and browsing, either brand is fine. Your monitor, VRAM, and the games you play matter more than the logo.

Quick decision frame

Compare specific models at the same price (for example two used cards within $50), at your resolution, with recent reviews. If you mostly play one competitive title, search “[game] + [GPU A] vs [GPU B]”, average FPS and 1% lows matter more than peak scores.

When RTX tends to make sense

Pick NVIDIA when you care about DLSS and ray tracing in the titles you already own, or when you run creative apps that lean on CUDA. Many local AI and video workflows still assume an RTX-class card first, see our local AI PC specs and workstation vs gaming GPUs for work.

When Radeon RX tends to make sense

Pick AMD when you want strong raster performance per dollar, you are fine enabling FSR (or playing native), and your games are not RT-heavy. RX cards can be excellent 1080p/1440p values on the used market, just confirm VRAM and power connector requirements like any other buy.

Power and thermals

Compare board power and real-world temps for the exact card model (not just the chip name). A hot, loud card in a small case is a worse experience than a slightly slower cool-running one, especially in Ontario summers if a room lacks AC.

Used-market tips

Verify VRAM amount; at 1440p, running out of memory hurts more than losing a few percent shader performance. Prefer sellers who can show stable runs rather than a single cherry-picked screenshot.
