RAM: the hidden bottleneck

Running a browser full of tabs, a charting suite, a news feed, Discord, and maybe Excel or Python in the background adds up fast. 32 GB is a comfortable baseline for serious multi-monitor traders; 64 GB is not overkill if you automate backtests or keep VMs open. Skimping here causes micro-stutters that have nothing to do with your GPU.

CPU: responsiveness over core count

You do not need the fastest gaming CPU on earth, but you do want a modern chip with strong single-thread performance so the UI stays snappy when everything updates at once. Pair that with a decent cooler so the machine does not thermal-throttle during long sessions.

GPU: “enough” is enough

Unless you are also gaming at high refresh or doing GPU-accelerated research, a mid-tier or older RTX/RX card is usually plenty to drive several 1080p or 1440p panels. What matters more is having enough video outputs (or a dock strategy) for your monitor layout, count ports before you buy.

Storage & reliability

Use a quality NVMe SSD for Windows and your platforms; keep free space so logs and cache do not grind the disk. Many used gaming PCs already ship with fast storage, confirm health and capacity in person or ask us for screenshots from CrystalDiskInfo.

Monitors & network

Match panels to your eyes and desk: IPS for viewing angles on a multi-monitor wrap, consistent height adjustment, and cables that support your target resolution. Hardwire Ethernet when possible; Wi-Fi is fine until it is not, usually five minutes before the open.
